W.B.: And yet, Tom Sellers’ “Action News Theme” remained all through the change in news umbrella title. So did the lower-third layouts (name set in Franklin Gothic Condensed, followed by the “5” logo) well into the early ’80’s.
Jeff Lonto: The beep-beep-beep-beeeep by itself was the theme for Channel 5 news prior to July 1971. Supposedly it’s Morse code for VICTORY, an idea from old man Stanley E. Hubbard.
Howard Luloff: The World Today was the title of the first newscast I remember when we moved to Minnesota from New Jersey in 1972. I remember Ted O’Brien anchoring the news, Barry ZeVan on the weather, including the temperature for Bird Island and Tom Ryther with sports.
