The last episode of M*A*S*H was an audience record breaking event, over 121 million people watched the series finale which was the largest volume of a TV program from 1983 to 2010. Immediately following the two and a half hour episode WCCO’s 10pm Report aired with stories on:M*A*S*H cultural effect with Alan Cox
M*A*S*H parties with Jim Newman
Tax evader Gordon Kahl’s wife being released from prison
Dynamite in Las Vegas
Tough times in the Iron Range
Jeff Lonto : Amazing. They still did the real news before going into the puff piece about the final episode of M*A*S*H. These days the entire show would have been about M*A*S*H along with the weather and sports segments and that would be it.
Jeff Lonto : I am also amazed at the number of screw-ups in this newscast from a 1st class television station.
David Olson: I had forgotten about the “read more about it” PSAs on CBS. It was an amazing night in Television and pop culture history. We won’t see such a focus on a Television comedy or drama ever again.
Bob: Near the end there is a Pabst beer commercial with a very young Ed O’Neill (Modern Family, Married with Children)
Steve: I graduated HS a couple of months after this clip. I missed out on the plastic applicator.
