KMSP-TV’s 9pm news was called “Prime Time News” for most of the 1980s. This 15 minute installment captures the look of what at the time was the metro’s only early newscast. Future Senator Rod Grams anchored KMSP-TV’s news from 1981 to 1992. For most of those years he was joined at the anchor desk by future Bloomington City Council member Heather Harden. This newscast features stories on the Iran Contra, Jonestown (this was seven years after the mass suicide), and drunk driving. Luckily our recording of Yogi’s Christmas recorded in 1986 went over.
